Temporal stylization refers not only to the creation of a coherent historical epoch, but also to the representation of certain historical realities suitable in particular era. In each case the translator solves the problem of the degree and form of permissible historical stylization depending on the creative task facing it.

Translation of fiction is a challenge for a translator. The complexity of translation of that kind of texts is due to the high semantic load of each word. The translator has to not only reproduce the text in foreign language, but to create a new one. Fiction uses images in a broad sense. A writer creates figurative expressions with a variety of language resources, so the translator should carefully select all the words to make up the artistic impression and not to deprive the style of the author. But at the same time, translator should not copy each item if it is contrary to the stylistic standards of the translated language.

 

Non-traditional ways of translating the Gerund into Russian,

The absence of such category as the Gerund in the Russian language makes translators deviate from the common structure of the English sentence with a subject and predicate, and replace it with an impersonal sentence or use the omission as a grammatical method, which is a disadvantage from the point of view of the semantic content. In its formal features the Gerund has little difference with the Participle I and even perform the same syntactic functions. However, the Gerund is closer to the Infinitive due to the correlation of nominal and verbal properties of these non-verbal forms. In this work we have examined 319 examples of translation the Gerund into Russian from the English and American fiction of the XX century.

This work aims to study the grammatical transformations of the English participle. The article provides a comparative analysis of the participles and their translations in English and American authors’ texts (“Cup of gold” by John Steinbeck, “Master of the Game” by Sidney Sheldon, “ Gone with the wind” by Margaret Mitchell, “ The Sun also rises” by Ernest Hemingway, “Airport” by Arthur Hailey, “Power and the glory” by Graham Greene etc.), which were not fixed in grammar references before. This article also reveals the degree of accuracy depending on the use of grammatical transformations when translating participles.

 

Interpretation of grammatical transformations in translation of fiction,

This work aims to study the functioning of grammatical transformations while translating fiction from English into Russian. The main objective of any fiction work is to achieve a particular aesthetic effect, creating an artistic image. Analysis of literary works translation reveals that it is typical to deviate the maximum possible accuracy of meaning in order to ensure the artistic translation. Translating fiction works a translator intentionally uses grammatical transformation to transmit all information contained in the original text in accordance with relevant rules of the transforming language.

 

Grammatical transformations of verb forms with -ing ending,

This work aims to study grammatical transformations of ing-constructions that have no analogues in the Russian language. Ing-forms in English implement very important functions: construction of participles, gerunds, verbal nouns. Problems associated with the translation of verbal forms are caused by significant discrepancies in their nature and usage in the English and the Russian languages. This analysis includes theoretical information, as well as some practical tips and recommendations for interpreters. All this has its practical value and can be used as reference material in developing courses and seminars for the faculties of intercultural communication as well as in practice of teaching translation.
